GEO / SEO for small businesses: get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) means that when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI "who does X near Y", the answer names your business. It is not magic and it is not paid advertising: it is a website that answers the questions your customers actually ask, built in a form a machine can read and quote, and listed in the places AI engines trust. We do all of it for you, from the audit to the analytics, in about a week.
What GEO is, in plain English
Not long ago, a customer looking for a service opened Google, got ten links and picked one. Today a growing share of searches starts with a question to an AI engine: "how much does a bookkeeper cost for a small LLC", "physical therapy clinic in Austin open evenings", "who builds websites for small businesses". The engine does not return ten links. It returns one answer, and inside it two or three business names it found, understood and trusted.
Classic SEO made sure you appeared in the list of links. GEO makes sure you are inside the answer. The practical difference: an AI engine looks for direct answers to specific questions, clear structure it can quote a full sentence from, and structured data (Schema.org) that states explicitly who you are, what you do, where and what it costs. A "nice" site with a home page, an about page and a contact page gives it almost nothing to work with.
Why a small business needs this in 2026
- Your customers are already asking. You do not need a survey to see it: ask ChatGPT about your field and check who shows up. If it is not you, it is a competitor.
- It is not crowded yet. Most small businesses have done nothing in this direction. Whoever sets up their site now gets in before the line gets long.
- It works for regular Google too. Pages that answer real questions, with structured data and proper indexing, are exactly what SEO has asked for all along. You lose nothing, you only add.
- It is measurable. With Google Analytics and conversion tracking you see where inquiries came from, including the ones that arrived through AI engines, instead of guessing.
What is included, step by step
- GEO audit of your current siteWhat an AI engine sees when it reads your site today: which questions it can answer from it, what is missing, what is blocking (robots, speed, structure). You get a short document with findings and priorities.
- 50 answer pagesA list of 50 questions your customers really ask (prices, process, comparisons, "when not to"), and one page per question: a direct answer up front, details, FAQ, a WhatsApp or call-to-action button. Drafted with AI based on a call with you, and reviewed by you before anything goes live.
- Structured data (Schema.org)LocalBusiness or Organization, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList and Article on every relevant page. This is where the machine reads who you are without guessing.
- robots.txt and llms.txtClean access for the crawlers of Google, Bing, OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity, and an llms.txt file that summarizes for AI engines what the site contains and where to go.
- Sitemap and IndexNow submissionA full sitemap, submission to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and a push through IndexNow so the new pages do not wait weeks for someone to find them.
- US listingsSetting up or cleaning up Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps and Yelp, with the same name, address, phone and description everywhere. AI engines cross-check sources, and mismatches lower trust.
- Google Analytics with conversion trackingInstallation, an event for every click on WhatsApp, phone or form, and a simple report that shows where inquiries came from.
Everything is delivered in about a week from the moment we have the materials (site access, a discovery call about the business, your approval of the question list). Complex or content-heavy sites can take a bit longer, and we say so up front.
What to expect, and when
| Stage | Typical timing | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Indexing | 1 to 3 weeks | New pages appear in Search Console and in a site: search on Google |
| Impressions | 2 to 6 weeks | Search Console starts showing impressions and clicks on the new questions |
| Inquiries | 1 to 3 months | WhatsApp, call and form clicks arriving from the answer pages, per conversion tracking |
| AI citations | Varies | Checked by hand every few weeks: ask ChatGPT and Perplexity the questions and see who is named |
The working example: this site
ratzlevad.com was built exactly the way described here: 50 guides, each answering one question business owners ask about automation, structured data on every page, llms.txt and a sitemap, listings on Google and local directories, and Google Analytics tracking every WhatsApp click. We measure the results ourselves, and what we tell you on the call will be what we observed, not what is convenient to say. The Hebrew version of this page is at ratzlevad.com/geo.html.
Who this is NOT for
- Anyone who needs customers this week. GEO is an investment measured in months. If you need leads tomorrow, paid ads will do it faster.
- A business with nothing to answer. If there are no recurring customer questions, no prices you can state and no defined specialty, 50 pages will be empty. Define the business first.
- Anyone who will not review the content. The pages speak for your business. Without your sign-off on the numbers and claims, nothing goes live.
- Regulated fields without professional review. Medical, legal, financial: possible, but the content must pass a licensed person in that field before publication.
FAQ
What is GEO and how is it different from SEO?
SEO gets your site into Google's list of search results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) gets your business named inside the answer that ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI gives when someone asks a question in your field. Most of the work overlaps, but GEO puts the weight on direct answers, clear structure and machine-readable structured data.
Does this work for a small business with no website yet?
Yes, but a site has to exist first. You can combine the two: a basic website from $1,200 with the GEO package on top. If you already have a site, we work on it rather than rebuilding.
When will I see results?
Indexing of the new pages usually takes 1 to 3 weeks, search impressions start after 2 to 6 weeks, and real inquiries typically come after 1 to 3 months. Anyone promising results within a week is selling something else.
Who writes the 50 pages, and what if they are wrong?
We draft them with AI based on a call with you about your business, your prices and the questions customers actually ask. Before anything goes live you review everything and correct it. No number, price or claim is published without your sign-off.
Do I need the monthly retainer?
No. The package stands on its own. The retainer ($470 a month, no commitment) is for businesses that want to keep adding pages, update existing ones based on what the data shows, and keep listings current.
What do you not promise?
We do not promise a first-page ranking, we do not promise that ChatGPT will cite you on every question, and we do not promise a number of leads. We promise a site that is built correctly, indexed, listed and measurable, so you can see for yourself what is happening.
